On Tuesday, 19th March 2024, the North West Regional
Branch Office of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC), in partnership
with the Regional Delegation of Social Affairs, the Cameroon Baptist Convention
(CBC) and Centre for Professional Counselling and Social Work commemorated the
International Day of Social Work under the theme "Shared Future for
Transformative Change". This was the first edition to be formally
celebrated in the North West Region of Cameroon.
The theme of the year focused on Social Workers'
capacity to adopt innovative and community-led approaches that are grounded in
indigenous wisdom and harmonious coexistence with nature.
Objectives :
The main objectives of this celebration were :
· To
bring Social Workers, and other stakeholders in Social Work together to learn,
connect, and raise awareness of the breadth, value and benefits of modern,
progressive social work.
·
To
lay a foundation for a permanent mechanism to monitor and promote the practice
of Social Work in the North West Region.
